I installed Zoom Gallery component today. And just like the other 3rd party components that I have installed these past few days, it did not work with Joomla! Beta 1.5 release.
After installations and tests, i have come to a conclusion that Joomla! Beta 1.5 has a backward compatibility issue with most if not all 3rd party components developed for the earlier 1.x versions.

I tried the weblinks component today. There’s no problem whatsoever. I added categories, then added links for each category and it works just fine. That’s good news to us webmasters who exchange links with other webmasters.
After testing weblinks, I tried one of my favorite 3rd party components, the AdsManager. You can see it working at one of my websites which is www.plcglobalpinoy.com and I find it very useful. Unfortunately, AdsManager don’t run in Joomla Beta 1.5 but it installed successfully. I did a little tweaking to no avail, so i decided to contact the developers of that very nice piece of Joomla component.
Waiting for their reply…

One of the new features of Joomla! that I have tested today is the breadcrumb module. But before I started exploring the new feature, I did a little research on what really is a breadcrumb. Fortunately, I stumbled upon an article, actually a study was conducted in year 2003 in relation to the usability of a breadcrumb.
According to the study, a breadcrumb trail, yes tht’s what they call it, has 2 major purposes, which are:
1) it provides information to users as to where they are located within the site, and
2) it offers shortcut links for users to “jump” to previously viewed pages without using the Back button, other navigation bars, or typing in a keyword search.
Well, the first purpose is achieved by the breadcrumb module in Joomla! As you navigate through the site, your location is indicated i the breadcrumb. Cool! :0) Unfortunately, just like the result of that study, the second purpose which is more important doesn’t seem to hit its target.
I’ll continue to dig deeper into this featuer, and hopefully I’ll get what I’m looking for… I’ll keep you posted….
